Originally from Solothurn, Urs Portmann obtained his law degree (summa cum laude) at University of Lausanne Law School where he worked afterwards as assistant to Professor François Dessemontet.
Having work-experience with law firms in Zurich and Lausanne, Urs Portmann is member of the Swiss and Vaud Bar Associations since March 2010.
Fields of activity
His fields of activities are mainly contract law, specifically employment law, distribution and license law, intellectual property law (patents, designs, trademarks, copyright law), commercial law and debt enforcement proceedings.
Urs Portmann advises mainly individuals as well as Swiss and foreign companies, active in the watch, aviation and medical industry. He counsels start-up companies and advises his clients in English, French, German and Spanish and defends their interests before Courts in the German and French speaking part of Switzerland. He has a broad network allowing him to provides his services on an international level.
Urs Portmann is the author of various publications in international private law, in contract law and in intellectual property law. He is a member of the Unilex editorial board for international commercial law and member of the Committee for the Jean-Pictet Competition in International Humanitarian Law.
